Well I bought a new drive enclosure and got my backups working again and did a few tests. Roll on 10.4.1 (Pretty please).Īnyone else had this and found a solution?

On the plus side though, the colour tools have come in handy, and despite FCPX not wanting to render these clips (And Optical Flow playing up, not being able to go into an audio only combined clip and now occasional random crashes with titles)m this does have the makings of a really good update. On another note, I was going to revert back to 10.3.4 tonight, however as the law of murphy would have it, the USB socket on the good old backup drive finally came away from its moorings today after 9 good long years of service, meaning until I can get a new housing, I'm stuck with 10.4! Media from the same sources imported though earlier versions of FCPX work fine, just media imported though 10.4 or the latest iMovie (Again, iMovie was a good failsafe before when 10.3.2 had issues, but both now exhibit the same issues for imported media). The clips will play after a delay, which can make editing frustrating.

The source is from DV tape via Firewire, call me old fashioned, but the kit still works and does 1080 footage beautifully. I've tried deleting preferences, copying onto another machine, changing the speed to force a re-render, applied effects, nothing seems to want to make it do a background render! It all worked fine with 10.3.4 but since the update, it's all gone a bit weird. So since upgrading to 10.4 I have a strange issue where video imported will not do a background render when pulled onto the timeline, yet other media imported in the same session from the same source does.
